Men’s Camino de Sonoma Pilgrimage-Stage 3

Walking the Camino de Sonoma can be a challenging physical endeavor. It is also a rigorous undertaking that can inspire powerful meditative, contemplative, and reflective experiences. You can expect to move and be moved by witnessing the environment through historical, religious, and cultural lenses.
Join NCC Men for a 13-mile guided hike (mostly flat) from Trail House in Santa Rosa to Sebastopol Central Park, the third stage of the Camino de Sonoma. This is a retreat opportunity to experience God's presence through nature, spend time in reflection and prayer, and enjoy fellowship with other men.
The pilgrimage is designed for people who are rigorous walkers and hikers.
The cost is $50 per person + your lunch/snacks.
Registration deadline is April 10.
Space is limited.

Good Friday
We will gather together on Good Friday for a reflective time of worship, scripture and prayer.
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

Women's Retreat
Take some time to slow down and make space for God. This retreat is an experiential opportunity that includes group activities and discussion, as well as time for individual contemplation, reflection, and prayer. Please note that the day includes some walking throughout the beautiful grounds, which have some hills and uneven paths.
Location: Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos
Cost: $80 per person, morning coffee and lunch included
Space is limited to 28 women.
Partial scholarships are available.

Creation Care Book Study
Thursday evenings, May 1 - 29, 6:30-8 pm
Fireside Room or patio, depending on the weather
Everyone is welcome to join us for an engaging book study, Saving Us, by Christian climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe. Throughout this five-week study, we'll gather practical ways to live out our calling as Christians in how we interact with the rest of creation. We hope to grow in our love for God and his creation while learning how we might play a role in caring for the present and future of our beautiful world.

Join NCC Women for a 12-mile guided hike (mostly flat) from Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma to Kenwood Plaza, the first stage of the Camino de Sonoma. This is a retreat opportunity to experience God's presence through nature, spend time in reflection and prayer, and enjoy fellowship with other women.
The pilgrimage is designed for rigorous walkers and hikers (more information on the registration form).
The cost is $50 per person + your lunch/snacks/water.
Registration deadline is April 30.
Space is limited to 15 women.

Community Blood Drive
Blood of all types is always in high demand for hospital patients, and this a a great way to make a difference. Our NCC blood drives are hosted by Vitalant and we hope you’ll consider making a life-saving donation!
If you are age 16 or older, weigh at least 110 lbs., and are in generally good health, it is likely you are eligible to donate. There are a few exceptions, mostly related to travel to malaria prone areas or medications you are taking. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact Vitalant directly at 877.258.4825.
Appointments are preferred, but we can usually take a few walk-in donors.

NCStudents Beach Campout
Get ready for an epic beachside adventure! We’re spending 3 nights and 4 days camping at the gorgeous Sunset State Beach, just south of Santa Cruz. Picture this: sun-soaked days filled with swimming, boogie boarding, volleyball showdowns, and perfecting that golden tan—all while making awesome new friends. And as if that’s not exciting enough, we might even take a field trip within a field trip to the legendary Santa Cruz Boardwalk for a night of classic seaside fun!
Cost: $125 per person

Young Adult Campout
Join us for an end of summer campout! We'll swim in the reservoir as well as do some day hiking, BBQ, campfire, and all the classic camping things!
Cost: $50 per person

Join our NCC Restorative Justice group for a special breakfast with inspiring individuals who are rebuilding their lives after incarceration. This is a unique opportunity to hear their stories and foster a sense of community.
Excell Network empowers formerly incarcerated individuals by providing scholarship stipends to help them achieve their academic and career goals. Monthly breakfasts are open to all, and your $20 ticket directly supports student scholarships.

Join NCC Men for a 14.5-mile guided hike (hilly, with 1325 ft elevation) from Kenwood Plaza Park to Trail House in Santa Rosa, the second stage of the Camino de Sonoma. This is a retreat opportunity to experience God's presence through nature, spend time in reflection and prayer, and enjoy fellowship with other men.
The pilgrimage is designed for rigorous walkers and hikers.
The cost is $50 per person + your lunch/snacks.

Ash Wednesday
Our sanctuary will be open from 8 am - 6 pm for prayer and receiving ashes on your forehead or hand. Stay as long as you would like for meditation and reflection, with guided prayer stations to assist you.

We’ll kick off with a fun lunch together, then walk over to the Stanford Shopping Center for an exciting Christmas-themed scavenger hunt adventure! 🎄✨ Students will team up, explore the festive surroundings, and race to solve riddles and complete tasks. County Jail Book Drive

Our NCC Restorativel Justice group is hosting a month-long book drive in partnership with the Service League of San Mateo County. The mission is to provide our brothers and sisters in Christ at the Maple Street Correctional Center with Christian books, devotionals, and Bibles to support their spiritual growth and encouragement during their time of incarceration.

Christmas Lights & Chili Cook-off
Get ready to jingle all the way at our annual NCC community Christmas sing-along and tree lighting! Belt out your favorite carols, soak in the twinkling lights, and keep the festive vibes going with a mouthwatering chili cook-off. Serve dinner on Thanksgiving Day at the San Mateo County/LifeMoves Navigation Center. LifeMoves staff will provide a delicious holiday meal, so your role is to serve the food and visit with residents.

Veterans Day @ Rosener House
Join NCKids for a Veterans Day Community Engagement activity with clients at Rosener House across the street from NCC. Kids will help elderly clients do a craft, while parents help supervise. This opportunity is for elementary-age kids with a parent.
Rosener House Adult Day Services offers a positive, caring option for older adults with challenges and their family caregivers. The goal is to help families remain together, both by active therapeutic intervention for the participant and by reducing the emotional and physical demands on the caregiver. Programs and therapies promote health, independence, and dignity for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, early memory loss, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and other chronic conditions.

Growing Older in Wisdom & Grace
What does it mean to age well? Women age 50+ are invited to join us as we explore some of the topics around walking with Jesus through stages of aging. The day will include times of teaching, as well as discussion, reflection and spiritual practices. Light breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included.
We are thrilled to have Rev. Joanie Tankersley as our guest speaker. Joanie has loved serving as a pastor for the past 45 years and is committed to sharing Jesus' mandate to “Seek first the Kingdom of God.” She is learning to be a care-giver for her husband of 52 years and takes every opportunity to hang out with her five grandchildren, hike in the Sierra Mountains with her doggie, Callie, and squeeze in reading historical fiction whenever possible.

NCStudents: Halloween
Calling ALL students, grades 6-12! Grab a costume and join us for a special Halloween Edition of NCStudents at NCC where we’ll eat boo-rritos, play slightly spooky halloween-themed games, and get a head start on mass candy consumption. Invite a friend!

The first step to becoming a steward (member) of New Community Church is to join us for lunch following the service, where you can learn more about our church, our denomination, and our history. This is the place to ask any questions you may have.

Learn about and consider applying for our upcoming 2025 trip. Jon Huckins, founder of Journey Home, will be our guest preacher that morning and will join us for this meeting.
