Board Nomination and Selection Process
The board provides strategic, spiritual, financial and governance oversight and is responsible for the mission and wellbeing of New Community Church. Members meet monthly as a full board and regularly in committees, including finance, ministry, governance/nominating, community engagement, human resources/legal, and compensation/performance review.
When vacancies occur, usually as three-year terms are ending on August 31 of each ministry year, the governance/nominating committee is charged with accepting nominations for election to the board. Nominations are requested in March through May each year, and can come from our pastors, current board members, stewards, or the congregation at large.
The committee receives, screens, and prayerfully considers proposed nominees for election to the board. Selected nominees then meet with members of the committee, usually between April and July, and those considered candidates for board service are asked to prayerfully consider such service. The slate of candidates is finalized by the end of July, and nominations are then made directly to the board. If approved, their election to the board is decided by majority vote of the stewards of the church at the annual meeting in August.
